DREAMS, Does God Still Use Them Today?

The bible has many accounts throughout time that He used dreams as a form of communication to His people. A few examples are Daniel, Joseph (old testament), Joseph (Mary's husband) and many others.

The Lord also says in Joel 2:27-29 And ye shall know that I am in the midst of Israel, and that I am the Lord your God, and none else: and my people shall never be ashamed. And it shall come to pass afterward, that I will pour out my spirit upon all flesh, and yours sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, your young men shall see visions. And also upon the servants and upon the handmaids in those days will I pour out my spirit. He also says in Hebrew 13:8 Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and today and forever.

I believe we can ask the Lord to use our night seasons for His purposes, to redeem that time for His glory. I can attest to His working in this manner in my life, I know of 3 separate accounts in which He used dreams He gave that actually saved lives. Of course it's important to decipher those from say "pizza for dinner" dreams.

One of these dreams came 2 nights before my husband was going on an extensive hiking trip into the deep wilderness with some other men. In this dream, I saw a man (I couldn't see the identity of this person) fall off a cliff, fall to the rocks below and die. I was very concerned to say the least, but my dear hubby thought it was just a story because I was worried about him and didn't want him to go. I KNEW what I had seen in this dream however and that it wasn't what he thought. I began asking people close to me to be praying for protection over this type of accident and that life would be spared. They faithfully did so.

Once up in the wilderness, my husband sort of jokingly told the other men to be extra careful because his wife had a dream about one of them falling off a cliff and dying.Later during one of their hikes, it happened. One of the men slipped off the face of the cliff they were climbing and fell several hundred feet to the rocks below. My husband was praying while the man was falling through the air. He miraculously survived! He did go into shock and was pretty banged up, but he sustained no broken bones or any real damage, and ultimately walked out of there on his own the next day (they were a 48 hour hike to the nearest dirt road). I know God gave this dream to prompt prayer that I believe saved this man's life. Isn't He good?

The other dream I had from Him was that I died in a car accident. (Talk about weird, to see your own). But I know He gave this dream for the same reason, to prompt prayer because it wasn't my time to go home. This dream happened about 4 days after the first one (above) and my mind was really trying to play tricks on me. I battled thoughts like "Oh, you're just imagining this because the last one was true, come on, get real" Guess who's voice that probably was? Because the last one had been so accurate, I did pray. The next day I drove with my children several hours away, we were going through Seattle on the freeway at 65 mph and drove under several overpasses. I don't know for sure what happened but I believe someone from on top of the overpass through a huge rock over, it was the size of a full human hand and came from above, not from a truck kicking up a rock. I had cars on both sides of me and saw this rock flying right at me and again began praying (in a scream). The rock hit the very center top of my windshield, both my children and myself saw it hit the glass (close to the roof however). Miraculously the windshield held, and I did not drive into anybody else. There was NO crack, or chip in the glass whatsoever. Later, we did discover the metal right above the glass where it had hit had a fairly large dent in it. We also learned the week prior, the exact thing happened to another motorist in the area, and the person was killed. Again I give all glory to God for saving me.

The last dream God gave me I was reading (in the dream) my hometown newspaper, and was just flipping through it and ran across the obituary section and read how a classmate I had known since kindergarten was killed in a car accident. This person however is still alive, so I knew this to be another warning to pray for his protection, safety and life, and more specifically about any car accidents. I've asked several others to be praying for him as well. He is still well and alive, and I know that is because of the Lord.

I am nothing but one of the Lord's children, there is nothing special about me, besides being one of His kids. It's about a special God. Any of us can ask Him to give us dreams from Him, to ask Him to give us the recall to remember those, to ask if we could serve Him in this capacity. Then when He gives something, trust Him with that, and pray. He is a kind, loving Father, and I know He gave those warnings because it was not those individual's time to go. He would also not have shown those things if He weren't able and willing to change them through prayer.

He forewarned of those accidents, yet life was spared.

I've found this to be a way of life now. He is able to do this whenever He desires because I've invited him to be welcomed to do so. Sometimes dreams can give you direction for your life (from Him), encouragement, correction or whatever else He wishes to communicate to you. It's all at His loving hands. I would encourage you to invite Him to work through your "night seasons" as He sees fit.

How To Make An Extra $100,000.00 Each Year

HOW TO MAKE AN EXTRA $100,000.00 EACH YEAR BY ADDING A FEW LINES OF SCRIPT TO YOUR ONLINE ORDER PAGE

McDonalds has added over 200 billion dollars to their sales with their one line "Would you like some drinks or fries with that?"

Sales are made or lost by what is written in your online store. What you say and how you say it determines just how much merchandise is sold in your online business.

If your thank you page simply says thank you and then proceeds to finalise the ordering process you are missing out on some serious money that should be lining your pocket.

Why? Because that person has ALREADY made a decision to buy something that you are selling.

That person already has their credit card ready to make a purchase from you.

That person has already come to the decision that what you are selling will help them in some way.

So to make more money with no extra effort on your part let your customers (note they are not your prospects any longer) come to a positive choice when they go through the order process by assuming that they will incre*se their order by making another positive choice.

For example,

  • Would you like an order of chocolate or vanilla ice cream with your cake" assumes that they will have ice cream already with their cake, they have to choose which flavour.

  • Would you care to order a red or white wine to go with that"?

  • Would you care to order a copy of Autoresponder Magic or Million Dollar Letters at half price"?
All these gives a positive choice. No matter which one the customer picks you win.

These questions are much better than a question that involves a yes/no answer. By of*ering two choices it is generally assumed that the customer will make a choice between the two products on of*er.

What you say in your ads and when interacting with your customers is worth a fortune to you.

But only if you apply what you learn

Wouldn't you like to enjoy a bit of cream on top with a short paragraph on your thank you order page?

Any time an order is placed through your website just add the following line of script?

"Thank you for your order. Because your order is over XXX (be sure to make it just below whatever the minimum order price is so everybody qualifies) you actually qualify for our special of*er".

Then briefly describe the special of*er (whether it be product or service) and the savings and benefits they will receive if they order NOW. Just this one little strategy can easily convert a $17.00 sale into a $30.00 or even $50.00 sale. If you're not using this strategy now I suggest you implement it right now. Leaving it off could cost you a fortune.

Something New For Managers?

A new public relations blueprint could be a good idea if you're a business, non-profit or association manager who's not getting the important external audience behaviors you need to achieve your department, division or subsidiary objectives.

You know, behaviors like more people interested in your services or products, or more capital contributions coming in the door, or more corporate membership applications hitting your desk.

While those kinds of behaviors may warm the cockles of a manager's heart, they're not going to happen for you if you encourage, or allow the public relations team assigned to your unit to concentrate on simple tactics to the exclusion of a workable and comprehensive action blueprint.

In other words, a strategy, say, like this one: people act on their own perception of the facts before them, which leads to predictable behaviors about which something can be done. When we create, change or reinforce that opinion by reaching, persuading and moving-to-desired-action the very people whose behaviors affect the organization the most, the public relations mission is accomplished.

Now that's not only a blueprint, it's a foundation for a public relations effort that can persuade those important external stakeholders to your way of thinking. Then move them to take actions that lead to your success as a manager working for a business, non-profit or association.

Here's one way to do it. Decide that you're going to spend some quality time with your PR folks and tell them you really want to find out what those outside audiences, those with the behaviors that really impact your operation, actually think about you. Next, put your target audiences in priority order so we can get to work on your #1.

By the way, because your PR people could be surprised at this kind of public relations blueprint, you had best stay personally involved as the effort gets off the ground. Another good reason to do so, is that actually doing something about key audience behaviors can have a positive effect on your own organizational success.

Now, as you find out how your operation is perceived by these important outside audiences, you will need to make an immediate choice. Spend a large chunk of your budget for professional survey people to ask questions of members of your target audience, or ask your PR team, and other employees to do it.

Interacting with outside audience members lets your people ask questions like "How do you feel about us? How recently have you had contact with our personnel? Have you actually used our services or products? Do you have any questions or problems with regard to our organization?"

The data gathered by this exercise is the raw material you need to establish your public relations goal. For instance, correct that inaccuracy, clear up that misconception or spike that rumor.

To achieve such a public relations goal, you'll need the right strategy to show you how to do it. And the choice of strategies is not complex because there are just three available when you address matters of opinion and perception: change existing opinion, create perception where none exists, or reinforce an existing perception/opinion. Always be careful that your chosen strategy flows naturally from your public relations goal.

Now, what will you say to members of that key target audience that, hopefully, will alter the inaccurate perception you discovered? You want your message to be crystal-clear as it details why that perception is just not true. From such clarity should come believability and a compelling delivery that can lead to the target audience behaviors you need to meet your department, division or subsidiary objectives.

Actually delivering the message is the least complex step in the public relations problem solving sequence. Fortunately for you, there is a large collection of communications tactics available to you ranging from your own personal contacts, service or product promotions, news announcements and consumer briefings to newsletters, media interviews, emails and dozens of other tactics.

In due course, you, your team and other interested parties will want to assess how your public relations effort is faring at altering the offending perception. Best way to determine that is to duplicate your earlier benchmark monitoring session putting similar questions to the members of your target audience. The important difference now? You're watching carefully for signs that the troublesome perception is being altered in your direction.

That altered perception, leading inevitably to predictable behaviors, is the bottom line. And a strong indication that a workable department or division public relations blueprint can help a unit manager achieve his or her operating objectives.

When Everybody Does It Comes Back to Haunt You

Parental example, whether for good or for bad, is undoubtedly the most powerful influence on a child's moral and social development.

If we are to succeed at all in bringing up our children in the way we want them to grow up, we have to be mindful of this day and night.

Let's say you are taking your family on an outing to the local zoo. As you enter the gates and take out your purse to pay for admission, you notice a sign that says children under six go in free.

"Ah!" you think to yourself. "My youngest child turned six a few weeks ago, but I'll tell them she's still five and save a few pennies. It's only a tiny untruth, nobody will know the difference and the zoo company will certainly not go bankrupt because of it."

But one of your older sons, who is no fool, overhears your exchange with the attendant at the counter and quizzes you about it as you all pass through the turnstiles.

"Don't worry about it, son," you tell him reassuringly. "Everybody does it."

Then a year later, you're shocked when this same son is caught cheating in a school exam, or helping himself to an apple in the market when he thought the stall owner was looking the other way. You angrily demand to know how he could dare to bring such shame upon the entire family.

"But Dad," he protests. "Everybody does it."

Here's a remarkable true story that shows this principle working in the opposite direction - and demonstrates just how far the effects of one single action can reach:

A woman went to the supermarket with her children. After checking out, she found she had paid too much. The checkout clerk refused to refund her the difference, so she approached the store manager and explained the mistake. The manager was too busy to pay much attention to the woman's problem. However, he reached into his cash drawer and handed the woman a couple of bank notes, just to keep her quiet!

On the way home, the woman realized that she now had the opposite problem - the manager had given her too much money! But it was already late, she was tired and the children were very restless, so she just continued the journey home.

That night, the woman could not sleep. She could not stop thinking about the money in her purse that did not belong to her. Every day she drove her children to school, but that morning she especially left early and on the way stopped at the supermarket. In front of the children, she explained to the manager that he had refunded her too much money in error the previous day.

The manager shrugged his shoulders and looked surprised that a customer had come all the way back just to return a couple of small coins, but replaced the extra money in his cash drawer.

Months later, one of the woman's children was sitting at his desk at school, watching his teacher return a batch of test papers to the class.

It had been a difficult test, and the lad was thrilled to learn that he had received an "A+" grade. The teacher praised him for his perfect score, and then began to review the correct answers with the class.

As the teacher read out the answers, the boy realised he had actually made a mistake in the test but the teacher had not noticed it. For a long time, he debated with himself whether to inform the teacher or not.

In the end, his conscience triumphed. After class, he approached the teacher and pointed out the grading error. The teacher was so impressed with the boy's honesty that he let him keep the "A+" grade all the same!

When the boy told his mother the story at home that evening, he confessed that a mighty battle had raged inside him after he had become aware of the teacher's error. His pride as the recipient of such a high grade was so strong that he had almost decided in favour of keeping quiet about the mistake.

But then he remembered how a few months earlier his mother had refused to rest until she had returned a few paltry coins that she felt did not belong to her. From that moment, he said, the battle ended and his mind was made up.

Most parents (and teachers) do understand to some extent that the most effective way to implant moral values and good habits in children is by personal example.

The problem is that we sometimes demand certain desirable behaviours from our children that we personally have not yet mastered, or do not practise for whatever reason. The youngsters are quick to pick up what they see as hypocrisy, and this may lead to unfortunate consequences.

We may tell our children to eat nutritious meals, while we try to survive on junk food. We may urge them to be polite at all times and to be careful to greet everyone they meet courteously, yet when we pass our neighbours in the street, we are in such a hurry that we do not as much as glance at them.

We may deeply believe that anger is a very bad character trait, and admonish our children every day to control their tempers. Yet, after a long and hard day of housework or at the office when our nerves are near breaking point, we fly into a rage immediately when our children do something that displeases us. And if we think about it enough, we will be able to come up with many more examples.

One thing, however, we have to know, internalise and constantly remind ourselves. The formative years of early childhood are always, by nature, the most impressionable ones in the lives of your offspring.

The way we conduct ourselves in every situation makes an unmistakable subconscious impact on their minds. This impact is bound to remain with them for many, many years to come, whether they are consciously aware of it or not.

Grammy Award Winners Expected to be Heard on Cell Phones Soon

Trends in music come and go, but the crown jewel of musical accomplishment has been a mainstay since its creation. The Grammy Awards are the music industry's biggest night. Winning a grammy carries the same weight for musicians as the Oscars do for actors - there is no greater achievement.

Over the past decade, the Grammy's have become a greater reflection of music that is not only critically acclaimed, but popular as well. According to AllMusic.com, seven of the previous 10 winners of the grammy for Album of the Year have reached number one on the Billboard Top 200 Albums Chart. 2003's Album of the Year winner, Speakerboxxx/The Love Below by Outkast, has sold over 10 million copies since its release in September of that year. Norah Jones' 2002 Grammy winner, Come Away with Me, has sold over 18 million copies worldwide, also according to AllMusic.com.

One of the best ways to gauge what music is popular today is what music listeners are downloading. The internet has become a virtual candy land for music lovers, and the acronym "MP3" can be heard as often in conversations about music as "CD."

MP3's themselves have become more mobile as technology advances, and are now making their way from the desktop to the cell phone. MP3 ringtones are the latest advancement in the ringtone industry. One of the fastest growing industries worldwide, ringtones are worth about $3.5 billion dollars, according to Deloitte Accountancy.

"Record labels and artists really rely on the revenue ringtones can generate," said Bob Bentz, Sales and Marketing Director for MonsterTones (http://www.monstertones.com). "It's a new found source of income for them in an era of overall declines."

Ringtones have become such a strong gauge of song popularity that Billboard gave its first Ringtone of the Year Award in 2003. The inaugural winner of the award was 50 Cent for his single, "In Da Club." 50 received five grammy nominations in 2003. Although he didn't win any, three of those were for "In Da Club."

Can ringtone popularity predict Grammy victory? Or is the crossover popularity that a hit ringtone signifies a death wish on Grammy night?

Kanye West has been described over the past year as "cocky." He believes he is the best. His Grammy nominations prove him right. West leads the field with ten noms for songs from his debut album, The College Dropout, and his work as a producer for artists like Alicia Keys. Kanye is nominated for Song of the Year and Best New Artist, and The College Dropout is nominated for Album of the Year thanks to hit singles and ringtones like "All Falls Down."

Usher earned eight nominations, and will look to continue his award season success in some of the biggest categories on Grammy night. He is nominated for Record of the Year and Song of the Year, and his seven times platinum album, Confessions, is nominated for Album of the Year. According to a source to the Times UK, Usher's single "Burn" (nominated for Best Male R&B Performance) was one of the top ten ringtones of 2004.

Alicia Keys avoided the sophomore slump with The Diary of Alicia Keys, and also garnered eight grammy nominations. In 2002, Keys won five grammys for her debut album, Songs In A Minor, and should have mantle space cleared for more grammophones this year. She is nominated for Album of the Year, and Song of the Year for her single "If I Ain't Got You."

Green Day re-introduced themselves to fans in 2004 with the release of their seventh album, American Idiot. They will try to win their first grammy since 1994 with six nominations, including Record of the Year for their politically-themed single "American Idiot." American Idiot is also nominated for Album of the Year and features the hit single "Boulevard of Broken Dreams," which is currently the seventh top selling ringtone on MonsterTones.

The Grammy Awards are becoming a more accurate reflection of music that is both popular and creative each year. As the awards show makes that shift, the popularity of ringtones could begin to play a role in which artists and songs receive nominations. There could even be a possible grammy created for Ringtone of the Year.

"Rap music is the best music since the '60s, and the Grammy's took a few years to recognize it as a musical category," said Bentz. "If ringtones continue to help shape what music becomes popular, who knows what could happen?"

The 47th Annual Grammy Awards are on Sunday, February 13. All the songs mentioned above, plus ringtones from other nominated artists like Hoobastank, NERD, and the Killers are currently available at MonsterTones for 47% off. For more information on MP3 and cell phone ringtones, please go to http://www.MonsterTones.com.

Anchors Away!

If we want to fill our heads with the doom and gloom society seems to thrive on, all we need to do is turn on the local news at night. To make that quantum leap toward personal happiness and success in life, sometimes we just need to do what so many people seem to be talking about lately: clean house and take personal inventory of the people we associate with most.

One of my favorite quotes of all time is, Avoid the ugly people. Mind you, when I say ugly, it has nothing to do with physical appearance. The comment illustrates that to best achieve our goals and wants in life, we should surround ourselves with other like-minded people to support us on our journey. In other words, we need to clean house of our own ugly people who, for some strange reason, we feel the need to hold onto.

Maybe you'll relate to a personal example from my own life. On the surface, Mark (not his real name) was a pretty nice guy. I thought of him as my personal anchor, someone who kept me grounded and helped me stay on focus and direction. But every time Id venture out into something new, Mark would put his ugly hat on. Rather than becoming a voice of reason or attempting to illuminate both sides of a given situation, hed only tell me about the horrors of such an idea and how crazy it was for me to even think that way. He made it clear that without him, Id float off into despair. (I mean, could you imagine me, of all people, wanting to write a book, start my own company, or dive into the volatile and unstable real estate market?)

Sounds funny now, huh? The moral of this story is that I allowed Mark to set my limitations. I forgot that people only have as much power over us as we give them.

In retrospect, Mark was correct: He was my anchor after all, because I allowed him to hold me back from sailing toward prosperity earlier in my life when I first wanted to take that leap. Until I grew strong enough to cut the tie and move forward on my own, I allowed myself to be restrained by his idea of what success should be.

Bottom line, I rolled up my sleeves and set myself free . . . anchors away!

Remember, only you know what youre capable of, so if youre going to choose to live up to someones expectations, shouldnt they be your own?

With that said, heres my challenge. Take a moment to reflect on any ugly people who may be taking up space in your head (rent free), and gently let them go. You deserve better. In fact, you deserve the best. Never, ever let another person hold you back from your dreams.

Now, dont do what I say, do what I did. Roll up your sleeves and set yourself free as well. Anchors away!

Best wishes always, and whatever you do,

Keep smiling!

The Worlds Top Water Bass Fishing Champion And His Techniques

I was fishing a small lake in central California back in 1980, I think it was that year. I had been fishing for a couple of hours and doing ok, catching some 1-2 pound fish and in a far distance I could see this man walking up with a bright red jacket. The closer he got, the more I noticed his jacket and all the patches on it, one said 1978 World Top Water Bass Fishing Champion, along with about 20 other patches. We began to talk, of course, I wanted to know all about him and he began to tell me about how he became champion. Now, I do want to say one thing here, I forget what he told me and I don't even know for sure if there is such a tournament for the World Top Water Championship but I watched this guy fish.

He was probably in his 50's or early 60's at the time and fished this lure different than I have seen before so I paid special attention. Finally, after seeing him catch a half dozen fish while I caught two I asked him what he was doing and what bait he was using that he was doing so well. He said he only used one kind of bait and opened up his tackle box. Can you imagine my surprise when the only lure he had in there was Rapalas. I mean bunches of Rapalas, every color and size you could imagine. I said where's the rest of your lures, he smiled and said this is all I use. By the way, at the time I was fishing with a Rapala, that was ironic to me. I said "that is what I'm using now".

He said "yeah, I see that but you're not fishing it right". Well, I had fished for bass for about 25 or so years then and wondered what in the world he was talking about, me not fishing it right. I had fished Rapalas for as long as I can remember. So, I said "what are you talking about not fishing it right?". He said "well, all you're doing is throwing the lure in and reeling it back. I said "yeah". He said" have you ever noticed a minnow or shad or whatever, he said they never go very far, they usually move a few inches at a time and they dart." He said "that lure of yours is supposed to imitate the baitfish the bass is after so make it act like one." Then he showed me and guess what? He was right!

His acted just like a baitfish and even looked like one swimming the way he did it. As he stood there twitching the end of his rod and letting it sit every two or three twitches then twitch it two or three times more and let it sit, I seen his point. I also seen him catch another bass, which made me a believer. Now I don't know if this man was the top water champion or not but I do know one thing.........his technique works.

I have used it on most of my retrieves anytime I fish top water and it works. Cast the lure, let it sit, twitch the end of your rod two or three times and let it set again. The only thing I have done is add one additional move. I throw the lure out and let it sit, twitch the rod two or three times and let it sit and then I move the lure so slow it barely cause a ripple and that is when I get most of my hits. Try this techniques the next time you fish your favorite top water lure and see the results.

Charles E. White has fished for almost 50 years for bass. It is estimated that he has caught over 6,000 bass in his lifetime. His biggest bass is a 12 pound 14 ounce bass that hangs on his office wall. Charles has fished with people who have never fished before and taught them to become successful anglers and has also fished with the pros in Florida. 7 Compelling Reasons Why A Prepaid Debit Card May Be Just The Financial Tool You Need

Prepaid debit cards are great financial tools and may be just the financial tool you need. Here a seven compelling reasons why:

1. A prepaid debit card helps you stay out of debt because the money you spend is your own. Credit cards encourage you to spend money you don't have, thereby giving you a false sense of reality. In truth, by using a credit card what you're doing is borrowing money from someone else (your card provider) to purchase the things you want. However, with a prepaid debit card the money you spend is your own.

2. Prepaid debit cards helps you control your spending habits, because in most cases you cannot spend over the amount you have in your account.

3. A Debit card can be the perfect way to pay your freelancer if you are a small business owner. Simply issue your freelancer a card and load funds onto the card whenever you want to pay them for a completed project.

4. You can use a prepaid debit card to send money to your loved ones abroad or to your college age children away at school. Some debit cards allow you to have two cards for one account and in this case you will be able to keep one for yourself and send the second to your loved one. Once they have received their card you can loaded funds to your account and call the other person to tell them how much money they can access from the nearest ATM or POS merchant. Their money is instantly available worldwide. It's a cheaper and faster alternative to expensive money transfer companies.

5. Prepaid debit cards are a safer way for employees to receive their salaries. Statistics indicate that in the United States over 3 million payroll checks are stolen each year. However, with the use of direct deposit combined with a payroll debit card, there is no worry of that ever happening. Also, through the use of direct deposit and a payroll debit card, you will have immediate access to your wages, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year - no matter what part of the world you're in. You will also save time by having your salary deposited to your payroll debit card - no more standing on long lines each pay period in the bank to cash your check.

6. A debit card is a convenient and affordable solution for the unbanked. Over 10 million households in the United States alone do not have bank accounts. In cases like these debit cards can serve as bank accounts. They can be used to access cash or make purchases at merchants such as gas stations, grocery stores or convenience stores. Additionally, debit cards can be just as useful as regular Mastercards or Visas because in many cases they can be used to purchase goods and services not only in shops but on the internet, and via mail order and to withdraw cash at home and abroad from ATMs (cash dispensers).

7. Prepaid debit cards are easier to apply for than credit cards. Often, they require no bank account, no employment verification, no credit checks and no security deposit. If you've been turned down for traditional bank issued credit cards because of poor credit, bad credit or no credit at all, try applying for a prepaid debit card. Some prepaid debit cards have a built in credit reporting feature which make it easier for people with bad credit to rebuild their credit histories by reporting their monthly payments to the major credit reporting bureaus.

Strategic Moves In The Branding Gamble!

The so called 'globalisation' has cluttered the world markets with so many products and services that nearly 90% of the marketing managers in competing companies do pretty much the same to sustain in the market. There is not much difference in the way P&G operates as compared to how Unilever gets its products to the market. Coke and Pepsi's operations nearly reflect each other and all that these two compete is on 'who spends more on advertising this year'! If one disagrees with this argument by saying "we provide better quality products/services", then don't forget that this is precisely where your competitors put their efforts as well. Southwest Airlines, the revolutionary domestic American low-cost no-frill airline, most of the time does exactly what its competitors do. Well, the only difference is that Southwest Airlines serves meals in the airport during waits and not on the plane. This in no way means that Southwest Airlines is performing better than its competitors. If you are doing well what you are supposed to be doing, then that is not differentiation but a prerequisite for competing. Also, doing the same things in a better way is a deserving effort but not a strategy, especially in the long run. If all the competitors in the industry tend to converge into an equable level, of prices/costs, quality, technological sophistication, service quality etc, how, then are you supposed to compete? In this scenario, what most management consultants will advise you is either to offer you clients with more than what your competition offers, for a higher price, for the same price, for a lower price or offer them less value for a lower price. But remember that all these options can give you a short-term edge, but will usually not sustain as you competitors will soon follow the bandwagon!

At this stage, one might say well why not target a niche market. You could offer something unique to a market that your competitor does not. You can cater a need not formerly satisfied by your competitor. The best example in this case is Nokia, the mobile giant who started selling cell phones more as a fashion accessory than a communication tool. Another example could be the retail chain NEXT, that saw the gap between the low cost low quality retail store such as PRIMARK and high cost standard quality stores such as GAP and entered the market to offer customers with products which fitted 'somewhere in between'. But as I have mentioned above, there is no guarantee that you would be the only one enjoying the benefits. Very soon, you will find yourself competing with many more competitors than what you had before you decided to enter this niche! But if your product/services is something that is difficult or impossible to imitate, or it is something that your competitors might not want to imitate ? then you might just have created a mini-monopoly of your own. And this is definitely an accomplishment that should not be underestimated in a competitive market.

Many would agree that all the above mentioned moves are nothing but strategies to compete in the market. But what really is a strategy? By definition, strategy is a way by which you plan your moves to achieve your objectives. A more interesting view of 'strategy' can be gained by understanding John Nash's Game Theory. In simple words, strategy is not what you will do, but 'how' you will do it. It is not what you will attain in the end but more so on 'how' you will attain it. Every football team has a strategy before the match, Mike Tyson always had a strategy before he got down on the ring (sometimes quite brutal! ), Michael Schumacher always has a strategy before he decides to take a pit stop! What all these simply imply is that a strategy is the way by which you plan to achieve an advantage over your rivals/competitor ? in the eyes of your customers. Almost always, preference can be achieved only by differentiation, by either doing something other than what your competitors are doing or by doing things in a markedly dissimilar manner. By being different you supply some of the consumers in some of the buying/consuming opportunities with a good reason to want you more (and if you are a great strategist indeed - to want you only).

A winning brand strategy-one that is integrated into a company's overall business strategy can make a huge difference in overcoming these challenges. Obviously, a powerful brand can cut through the noisy clutter of the marketplace, heightening awareness of a product or service and shifting demand in its favour. But a strong brand can do more than simply help companies stand out from the crowd; it can help them break away entirely. Increasingly, we see the winning company in an industry transforming its early lead into a brand driven emotional momentum that leaves runners-up in the dust. Thus, a strategic brand move is a bit more than just doing something different than your competitors.

Differentiation definitely gives one an advantage in the market but what is more important is to develop a 'strategic differentiation', which is not everyone's cup of tea. Other forms of differentiation that many companies have often adopted are either 'ephemeral differentiation' or 'indirect differentiation'. Ephemeral differentiation allows one to promote the brand in a short period of time. Some examples could be a month long advertising campaign or a big sales promotion campaign. Alternatively, indirect differentiation consists of things like historical monopoly, location etc. But none of these provide a long lasting circumstance crossing advantage. Many organizations believe that differentiation is necessary for enabling the consumers to choose between alternatives in the market. I agree. But what organizations fail to understand is that more than differentiation, it is the perception of the consumers towards the brand that has a strong effect on his/her buying behaviour. Coca-Cola, Pepsi, Nescafe, Tango, Milk, Evian etc. are all alternatives for a consumer to quench his/her thirst. But when he/she is in a store, it is their perception which activates and starts dominating the movement of their hands! Any of the above would ultimately provide value to the consumer by meeting his needs- thirst. More often than not, most of the available options in the market offer their consumers 'what matters most'.

The idea of differentiation is to develop your strategy in such a way that your consumers think of you as exceptional. They will act as your success engine, even amongst consumers who are not as definite in their attitudes. BMW fans do not believe that Mercedes is a bad car; it's just that it is not a BMW. For them, Mercedes is simply incomparable to BMW. That's how Apple fans feel about IBM. Strategic differentiation is thus a combination of the brand strategy and the competitive strategy in such a way that the brand itself becomes a strategic differentiator. Or more accurately - the brand strategy is the translation of the competitive strategy - into a language of promises made to the consumer.

Thus the strategic importance of branding is something that needs to be understood by those who want to make a difference. Today, brand building no longer constitutes a mere manipulation of the consumer's perceptions and desires, but it is a creation of a system that on the one-hand makes promises and arouses anticipations, while on the other-hand it delivers and realizes the promises that it makes. If your moves are right, you will definitely win the jackpot! You don't necessarily need to do something different, but you need to do the same things differently!

Lamination of Signs

I suspect that everyone has an idea of what lamination is even if you have only seen it in passing. Restaurant menus are a common example. A plastic finish is placed over the menu to protect it from food and stains. But did you know that you can laminate just about anything that is flat? If it needs to be protected and reused, it is something to consider for lamination. The laminate also makes the original material stronger and more durable. All of our signs can be laminated, but the reasons are varied and not all signs should be laminated.

A number of our customers have fondly taken to our dry erase laminate. They can have engineering plans, tables, or other diagrams printed on almost any of our substrates (for example, PVC or aluminum). Once we cover them with the dry erase laminate, it allows the users to mark up the signs with dry erase ink which can easily be wiped off. It is wonderful for talks and demonstrations.

But our primary use for laminates is to protect signs and give them longer life expectancy. For example, our UV inks used in digital printing have a life time of about 3 years before they begin to fade without lamination. But a laminate can give them an additional 2 to 3 years without fading.

We like to encourage our customers to laminate the magnetic car signs we produce, because it protects the inks from abrasions ? the roads constantly kick up dirt and dust which strike the signs. You should also consider laminates for signs that are frequently taken down and put back up. Real estate signs are a perfect example. They can come easily scratched without lamination. The user can also roll the sign up after meetings and reuse it without fear of the sign becoming warn.

And finally, we like to use laminates because they give the sign a nice professional finish. There are two basic types of finishes that can be achieved from laminate: matte and gloss. Matte finishes look a bit granular and are not reflective, but they tend to make colors on the sign more striking and vivid. In contrast, gloss finishes are reflective and tend to make bright colors radiate with strong definition.

There are two basic types of laminates: hot and cold. Hot laminates are placed on signs at approximately 220 to 300 degrees F. The process is a little more expensive than cold laminates, but the laminate lasts a bit longer. Unfortunately, some inks used in digital printing will melt under the hot conditions. You also cannot use hot laminates on heat sensitive papers.

Under these conditions, cold laminators are required. They use pressure sensitive adhesives to secure the lamination film. We also use a spray laminate (cold) to protect signs when cost is an issue. Spray laminates protect the sign but do not give a gloss finish or make the material more rigid.
